PYROLIT: Cordierite ceramics by Rauschert
Under the brand name of Pyrolit, we offer cordierite materials with dense and porous structures, all of which are distinguished by an outstanding thermal shock resistance, while at the same time having high heat resistance and electrical insulation strength.
Our Pyrolit materials in accordance with C 410, C 511, C 520 and C 530 in compliance with IEC 672 are ceramic materials on the basis of cordierite, a magnesium aluminium silicate mineral with extremely low thermal expansion. In addition, they contain additives of mullite, corundum and silicon carbide.
Pyrolit materials stand out because of:
- outstanding thermal shock resistance
- high degree of electrical insulation strength
- corrosion resistance
- high heat resistance (C 530 up to 1300 °C, specialities up to 1600 °C)
- comparatively favourable production costs

Typical moulding procedures are dry pressing, wet pressing and extrusion. Almost every geometric shape is possible.
As a speciality, we also offer you large components, such as large ceramic tubes with threads, grooves or notches, produced with manufacturing procedures and processing techniques developed in-house.
Their very good electrical properties make Pyrolit materials ideal for application in electrical heating technology.
Approved products include heating element supports, spark protection walls and insulators in the area of high and rapidly changing temperatures, welding back-ups, sensor housings for thermocouples, to measure temperature during steel production and mould for foundries. This material is also ideal for ceramic tubes, multi-hole tubes or spiral pipes, for example for furnace construction, hot air fans or as spark killers.

For new products and developments, we enable you to get an initial impression of our materials: We will send you material samples free of charge. Using a special rapid manufacturing procedure, we also offer you individual samples as prototypes at a flat-rate machine charge. In this way you can test the material in use before deciding on series production at our company.
