{"id":4439,"date":"2018-11-14T14:02:50","date_gmt":"2018-11-14T13:02:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rauschert.com\/product-area\/technical-ceramics\/materials\/steatit\/"},"modified":"2022-10-25T16:50:38","modified_gmt":"2022-10-25T14:50:38","slug":"steatite","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/rauschert.com\/en\/product-area\/technical-ceramics\/materials\/steatite\/","title":{"rendered":"Steatite"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"rl_sliders-title nn_sliders-title\">Production &amp; properties<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Steatite is a silicate-ceramic material<\/strong> based on soapstone, with a proportion of 75 &#8211; 90 %.<br \/>\nApart from soapstone, it also contains clay and flux agent.<br \/>\nTypical steatite materials are composed of 58 &#8211; 65 % SiO<sub>2<\/sub>, 26 &#8211; 32 % MgO, 3 &#8211; 6 % Al<sub>2<\/sub>O<sub>3<\/sub>, 1,3 % Na<sub>2<\/sub>O (for C 220), and 7 % BaO (for C 221).<br \/>\nThe glass phase has a proportion of 25 &#8211; 45 %. The crystalline proportion consists of protoenstatite.<\/p>\n<p>Mechanical stability values can be increased with the addition of zirconium oxide.<\/p>\n<p>Typical moulding procedures are dry pressing, extrusion, ceramic injection moulding, slip casting and wet pressing.<\/p>\n<p>The design examples illustrate the variety of shapes that can be achieved through dry pressing technology. When materials are substituted, the experiences of the manufacturer in terms of a ceramics-compatible construction should be taken into account from the very beginning.<\/p>\n<p>Steatite is sintered at approx. 1300 \u00b0C. To retain dirt-repellent surfaces, steatite can also be glazed.<\/p>\n<p>Steatite displays the following critical properties:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>very good dielectric strength<\/li>\n<li>tracking resistant<\/li>\n<li>heat resistance and form stability up to 1000 \u00b0C<\/li>\n<li>high mechanical strength<\/li>\n<li>non-combustible<\/li>\n<li>age-resistant<\/li>\n<li>resistant to UV radiation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"rl_sliders-title nn_sliders-title\">Applications<\/h3>\n<p>Its outstanding electrical insulation properties have made steatite one of the most important materials in electrical engineering. Some fields of application:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>halogen sockets<\/li>\n<li>NH fuses<\/li>\n<li>insulators<\/li>\n<li>thermostat switch casings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Apart from the aluminium oxide material <strong>RAPOX<\/strong>, steatite is also used as a high-voltage insulator.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Enquiries<\/h3>\n<p>We will be pleased to draw up an offer for you!
